Itinerary: 5 Day trip Marrakech to Fes via Sahara and Chefchaouen

Day 1: Marrakech – Ait Benhaddou – Dades Valley

Your adventure begins as you leave Marrakech in the morning and travel through the majestic High Atlas Mountains, crossing the Tizi n’Tichka Pass at 2,260 meters. Along the way, you’ll enjoy stunning mountain scenery and Berber villages built into the hillsides.
Stop to visit the famous Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Morocco’s most iconic ksars, known for its role in many famous films. After lunch near Aït Benhaddou, continue towards Ouarzazate, known as the “Gateway to the Desert.” Then, travel through the Valley of Roses and the scenic Road of a Thousand Kasbahs before arriving at Dades Valley, where you’ll spend the night in a cozy riad or guesthouse surrounded by dramatic red rock formations.

Day 2: Dades Valley – Todra Gorges – Merzouga (Camel Ride & Desert Camp)

After breakfast, drive through the Dades Valley and head to the spectacular Todra Gorges, where towering canyon walls rise up to 300 meters high. Enjoy a short walk through the gorge to admire the natural beauty and the crystal-clear river flowing through it.
Continue your journey through the changing landscapes of the desert until you reach Merzouga, at the edge of the golden Erg Chebbi dunes. Here, your camel caravan awaits — you’ll ride into the dunes just before sunset, watching the colors shift over the sand. Spend the night in a luxury desert camp, enjoying Berber music by the campfire under a sky filled with stars.

Day 3: Merzouga – Ziz Valley – Midelt

Wake up early to witness the sunrise over the dunes — an unforgettable moment. After breakfast at the camp, ride the camels or take a 4×4 transfer back to the village.
Then, begin your drive north through the Ziz Valley, famous for its palm groves and ancient kasbahs. Stop in Erfoud, known for its fossil workshops, and continue through the Middle Atlas Mountains towards Midelt, a peaceful town located between the mountains. Dinner and overnight in a charming hotel surrounded by apple orchards and mountain views.

Day 4: Midelt – Azrou –Meknes – Chefchaouen

Today’s journey takes you through some of Morocco’s most diverse landscapes. Pass through Azrou, a Berber town in the Middle Atlas, known for its cedar forests and wild monkeys. Stop in Meknes for lunch and take a short walk in the Medina.
Continue north through the rolling Rif Mountains until you reach Chefchaouen, Morocco’s famous “Blue City.” Wander through its narrow, blue-painted streets and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of this charming mountain town. Overnight in a riad overlooking the medina.
