Depart in the morning from Marrakech to Ait Ben Haddou. Via Kasbah Telouet which is along the former route of the caravans from the Sahara over the Atlas Mountains to Marrakech. It’s the seat of the El Glaoui family’s power and is sometimes called the Palace of Glaoui. The current Kasbah was built starting in 1860 by Mohammed Ibiyet, the head of the Glaoui clan in the High Atlas. The Kasbah is now abandoned except a small part which can be visited and it’s one of the most extraordinary sights of the High Atlas Mountains.
1 Day Marrakech Ait Benhaddou to the historic ksar (fortified village) located in the foothills on the southern slopes of the High Atlas in the Province of Ouarzazate. It’s a striking example of southern Moroccan architecture, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. The houses are crowded together within the defensive walls, which are reinforced by corner towers. Ait Ben Haddou was once a major stop along the caravan route between Marrakech and the Sahara.
Today, it become a popular tourist destination where visitors can explore the beautiful mud city and some of the old houses from the inside. After visiting the Kasbah and get your lunch, You will drive back to Marrakech. Some stops on the way as much as the daylight allows you.
