Itinerary: 5 Day trip Fes to Marrakech (Trek in Dades valley)

Day 1: Fes – Merzouga (via Ifrane, Midelt & Atlas Mountains)

After breakfast in your riad, depart from Fes toward Ifrane, often called the “Switzerland of Morocco” for its alpine-style architecture and clean streets. Continue to Azrou to visit the cedar forest, home to playful Barbary apes. The journey then takes you through Midelt and the scenic Tizi Ntalghamt Pass, offering panoramic views of the High Atlas Mountains and Ziz Gorge. Enjoy lunch in Errachidia before following the lush Ziz Valley to Erfoud and finally Merzouga, at the edge of the Sahara Desert. Overnight in a comfortable riad near the dunes.

Day 2: Merzouga Region Tour & Desert Camp

After breakfast, set out to explore the Merzouga region, starting with Khamlia village, known for its traditional Gnawa music. Visit the Mifis mines and meet nomadic families living near the Algerian border. Return to your hotel for a refreshing mint tea, then embark on a camel trek across the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. Enjoy a traditional dinner under a canopy of stars and spend the night in a desert camp, surrounded by the silence of the Sahara.

Day 3: Merzouga – Todra Gorges – Dades Valley

Wake early to witness the breathtaking sunrise over the dunes, then ride your camel back to Merzouga village. Rejoin your driver and head to Rissani and Tinghir, continuing to the Todra Valley. Enjoy lunch and a walk through these impressive limestone Gorges. The journey then continues to the Dades Valley, famous for its dramatic rock formations (known as “monkey fingers”) and ancient kasbahs. Overnight in a hotel in the valley.

Day 4: Guided Trek in Dades Valley

After breakfast, enjoy a guided trek through the Dades Valley and its surrounding mountains. Walk past traditional Berber villages, almond and fig trees, and explore hidden kasbahs. This day offers a genuine look into rural Moroccan life and breathtaking scenery. Return to your accommodation for dinner and a second overnight in the valley.

Day 5: Dades – Ouarzazate – Ait Benhaddou – Marrakech

After breakfast, travel along the Route of a Thousand Kasbahs and through the Rose Valley, stopping at Skoura Oasis to explore a 17th-century kasbah. Continue to Ouarzazate to visit the famous Taourirt Kasbah and have lunch. Then drive to Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site and a popular film location.
